EVALUATION
* In what ways does you media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My magazine develops conventions of real media products by the ways its laid out. I was inspired by other professional magazines on how to lay out my pages. My aim was to make my music magazine professional but by to still make it feel like it doesn't really care what anyone thinks.
You could say the text develops conventions as it is more or less the same content you would usually find in a music magazine. I didn't think new types of content was needed as I feel that everyone is happy with that aspect of music magazine anyway. I did have the idea of making my text controversial which i feel my target audience would enjoy but the publishers would likely not allow it.
Another thing that has more or less same kind of feel to if is the photography. You can't put a message across without effective photography. My photography trys to show an artistic mind while trying to express the mood of the person I'm taking a photo of. as photos are the most important content in my magazine, it is not necessary to try and change how photos are portrayed in music magazines.
If there was anything to challenge the conventions is the fact that my magazine is trying to put across the message that the magazine doesn't really care what anyone thinks about the magazine. we don't care weather you like or not. This relates to the target audiences mentality.
*How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My project represents the punk social group because the articles are on "punk bands" which the target audience would want to know about because they are the most successful bands of the punk genre. My magazine also offers information to educate the particular social group on "top 50 albums of the year" so the readers feel privileged to be reading this as a punk magazine is quite an independent it will feel like exclusive info to the reader. In articles PRETTY VACANT (my magazine) likes to get down to as much detail as possible as all the punks like the nitty gritty stuff. The photos in my media project represent the social groups the most as the models are wearing the stereotypical punk clothing e.g black skinnny jeans and a leather jacket. The poses they strike are layed back portaying that the dont really care what people think of them.
*What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I think it would be better if IPC distributed my magazine because it is a national company so it would be easier to keep in contact with them. As IPC are the same company that distributes NME which is what vibe PRETTY VACANT would be trying to recreate as NME was the most popular music magazine back in the 1970's giving similar content as we are. All the brands IPC distribute have been running for a long time meaning they are a reliable company. ICP publishes more than 60 iconic brands. IPC creats content for multiple platforms, across print, moblie, tablets and events. ICP engage with 26 million UK adults - almost two thrids of UK women and over 40% of men. Our award winning protfolio of websites reaches over 25 million users every month.
*Who would be the target audience for your media project?
In my readership profile I said my magazine would be for people in around their 50's but now I have finished it I would think it would actually be for the age 17-25 years old. As i have now realised that my magazine is for new punk bands and the content contains infomation about recent events including festivals that people in their middle age with kids would not be going to. It would apeal to this audience as the artists in my magazine are meant to be the same age. That means they would have more in common with the younger generation rather than the older.
*How did you attract/address your audience?
My mast heads colours contast with the cover photo nicely as both main clours (pink and black) are still relevant to the target audience. Hopefully the proffesionality of the photos would draw people in. For my new target audience it is commmon for them to want to read about artists that look good and insipre them. By editing my photos i can try to make them to look its best possible quality. The front cover offes the audience catchy lines and topics to attrat the audiences attention. For example "common as MUCK!" this makes the audience look again thinking they may have mistaken a word leading them to look at other topics and solgans.
*What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have never used this software before but I found I it very useful and effective. As a beginner it was perfect. I learnt such tools as beautify, exposure, sharpen, colour mixer, soften ect. here is an example of my editing.

* Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Throughout this task I feel I can now see lots of details in media's that I havn't really noticed before. For example how much work actually has to go into a photo. I can now recognise the effort gone into professional photos.
I can now read a photo more easily. Looking at proffesional advertisment I can recognise how the photographer makes the target audience look at certain parts of the photo to attract them to the product of company they are advertising.
I now feel I know how to take a good photo and what messages that go into it that make it either more powerful or something that can really highlight the person im taking the photo of. I can spot good locations for photos. For example I took my photos in a street full of abandoned houses which relates to the punk era thinking of suburbs and rundown places.
I can now edit a photo effectively. I can see what needs editing and fix it in the correct way. I also know when to stop and not over edit the photo.i find that mixing the clours is the most effective tool to make your photo a success.
i can now analyse a feature article, contents pages, and front cover. i can see why they are succsessful. for example a contrast of images might be appealing to the target audience.
i can design a decent logo to fit the genre of my magazine. for my logo i used distorted shapes with familiar patterns and colours to the punk era.
i feel i am good at coming up with names for magazines. weather its witty or just slik and professional. you need to fave the best name possible to stand out from all your competition.
i can recognise my target audience and know what they want. i knwo what to include in my magazine which would make the audience carry on buying them. my audience dont want to know about books. they want to find out who punks greatist nutjobs are its important to not make my mgagazine the slightist bit boring as my traget audience are seen as not having the greatist attention span.
